These braces were created using the trunk of a massive cedar, which had to be taken down after Hurricane Ivan. Palafox Pier can be found on the south side of Palafox Street, with Plaza de Luna located at the very end. This area overlooks Pensacola Bay, and is one of the best places to take pictures in Pensacola. This waterfront park was named after the Spanish Conquistador Don Tristan De Luna, who sailed here in 1559 to establish the first European colony in North America! They abandoned this area two years later, after a hurricane caused severe damage.

Another fun fact about this area is that it is home to one of the many Pelicans in Paradise that are scattered throughout the city. What started as a fundraiser and community art project to rejuvenate the arts scene in Pensacola, is now one of the neatest and most unique displays along the Emerald Coast. This 42-acre park and nature preserve has a steep, winding boardwalk, yielding enchanting views you have to see to believe!

With that being said, this park is not recommended for those with mobility issues or accessibility needs. The only way to get to the beach and the different observation points is by using the steep stairs that zigzag over a half-mile through the cliffs and forest. Please use caution when walking this trail.
