The Activity we Experienced
What we chose to do
This Family-Run Cruise was Perfect for My Family
How did you discover this activity?
We Googled things to do in Destin, Flordia, and a private sailing charter was one of the options. We looked at other sailing options, but this was the most reasonably priced. When we booked it, it took us to TripShock.
When did you book your tour compared to the departure date?
We booked 2 weeks in advance.
Why did you choose this activity?
We wanted to do something with a boat on the water. We considered going to Crab Island, but we wanted something more quiet and relaxing. We read that you could see dolphins and Captain Karl would drop an anchor if you wanted to hang in the water. All in all, everything sounded like a win-win. Plus, it would be a new experience since none of us had gone sailing before, but we all wanted too!
How did you get to the activity location?
We stayed in Mary Esther, so it was a very short drive to get to the marina.
What was your experience with the activity’s staff?
Captain Karl and first mate Dottie went over all the rules and expectations with us before we left the dock. We were also a bit early and they didn’t seem to mind even though they were in the middle of getting ready.
The Captain and my brother shared a lot in common, so that made for easy conversation from the get go. They provided a cooler, ice, and water, much needed on the water! They made sure to point out whenever anything interesting was happening for us to watch. They also answered many questions on the ins and outs of sailing.
Highlights or memories you and your group will take from the trip?
Seeing the dolphins as we took off was a huge bonus, because that doesn’t happen every time. It was wonderful to have 2 different areas to sit in. One by the Captain and one up front.
The front view gave a majestic view of the sails against the sky, and the relaxing sound of the waves hitting the boat give you a reason you to relax. The seats by the Captain gave you a view of how everything is done, and only a portion of how much work goes into letting you sit back and relax. It was a nice touch at the end of the trip to have our picture taken as a group.
Would you recommend this activity to another group like yours? Why or why not?
I would 100% recommend this. Its family run (husband and wife) which is something my family enjoys working with.
